CALC, Institute of Technology encourages students to register to vote if you meet the following registration requirements

Illinois voter registration rules

  • be a citizen of the United States
  • be a resident of Illinois and of your election precinct at least 30 days before the next election
  • be at least 18 years old on or before the next election
  • not be in jail for a felony conviction (but you can vote if you have completed your sentence)
  • not claim the right to vote anywhere else

When can I register to vote?

Regular registration is open year-round except during the 27-day period just prior to an election, 16 days prior to the election for online registration, and during the 2-day period after each election (1 day after in Chicago). Grace period registration is an extension of the regular registration deadline from the 27th day prior to an election through Election Day. Grace period registration is only available “in-person” at sites authorized by each election authority.

When can I register to vote?

In order to be registered to vote in an election, you need to be registered by the Election Day deadline, or the normal close of business of any public building where registration is allowed, whichever is later, on the fourth Wednesday prior to the election. If registering by mail, your voter registration must be postmarked on the fourth Wednesday prior to the election. If you register after such time, you will be registered to vote in subsequent elections.

Ohio voter registration rules

You are qualified to register to vote in Ohio if you meet all the following requirements:

  • You are a citizen of the United States.
  • You will be at least 18 years old on or before the day of the general election.
  • You will be a resident of Ohio for at least 30 days immediately before the election in which you want to vote.
  • You are not incarcerated (in jail or in prison) for a felony conviction.
  • You have not been declared incompetent for voting purposes by a probate court.
  • You have not been permanently disenfranchised for violations of election laws.

When can I register to vote?

You must register or update your voter registration no later than 30 days prior to an election. If you register or update your information after the deadline, the change will apply for the next election.
